The Historical Museum of Biarritz

The Historical Museum of Biarritz  is chock - full of all the highlights of the city, which was originally a modest fishing harbour. In the eleventh to the eighteenth century, this activity has known a golden age and in this way ensuring the great economic development of the city. By visiting the Museum, you will live all the experiences of Biarritz through the artistic works and collections exhibited there.

The Museum is located in an ancient Anglican church. It reflects the biarrot origins since its birth as a fishing port to its transformation into a seaside resort. The site has piled all the memories of Biarritz that will make you remember the legends of the important periods of the city, and this, through its gallery and video projection.

Located at Broquedis Street 64 200, the Historical Museum has had a special location at St. Andrew's Anglican Church, built in 1876. A memorial, built in the year 1882, to pay tribute to the benevolent British soldiers who fell in the south-west of the court during the clashes of 1813 to 1814. The archive is built on the walls of the splendid entrance porch with neogothic paces.

The church of Saint Andrew's was bought in 1980 by the city of Biarritz where it was spared any destruction by the municipality. The sanctuary was then placed at the disposal of the Association of "Friends of the Historical Museum of Biarritz" in 1984. It was in 1986 that it was transformed into a true independent historical museum.
